Goverment Relations:

Although Mustafa has a popular blog, the reasons for his arrests have mostly been based on his involvement with protests. While the Interior Ministry denied reports of sexual harassment of women in downtown Cairo in Novemeber of 2006, Malek posted about the scene on his blog. He witnessed the attacks first hand: "when people could not purchase tickets to enter the movie theater the crowd got rowdy and men started attacking women by tearing at their clothing and touching them". On March 26, 2009, there was a demonstration in Cairo in opposition to new controversial amendments. The police responded violently; people who tried to enter or leave the protest were beaten. Groups of girls were heard screaming while being continuously beaten by police officers.. Mustafa was one of the 10-20 protesters that was arrested after the violent crackdown. He was freed in April 2009.
